Farmhouse Extension and Renovation, Kilbrittain, Cork

Project Background

The client approached us asking for an significant extension to an existing traditional cottage in Kilbrittain.

We worked with them to bring the project to the maximum standard possible of usability and comfort.

A traditional 2 storey cottage of mud and sod walling, in the beautiful setting of the Atlantic coast, was the original dwelling to which an extension to the back and to the side has been designed and constructed.

Materials/Construction method

Three bedrooms, three bathrooms, utility and kitchen have been added to the original cottage, using a timber frame structure, insulated to the highest level of accuracy.

Under floor heating on both ground floor and first floor, by mean of a pumped-in concrete floating screed and under floor heating system run by an Air to Water Heat Pump, has been integrated to ensure a warm and efficient house.

All the windows and outside doors are A rated Aluclad Rationel windows: the large sliding glass door to the kitchen, overlooking the bay, brings in natural light and joins the kitchen are into the external yard.

The dwelling is finished to its highest level of comfort and technology, meeting traditional features like the limewash coating, on all the external walls and in the faces of the original internal walls.
